COMPANIES WORKED WITH
Jim began working as an engineer with Ford Aerospace designing analog and digital microwave communication systems for the United States Air Force. His primary work was in medium data rate UHF to X-Band RF transmission and reception systems. He designed and built the first bandwidth on demand fiber optic tranmission system utilizing temperture accomodating multimode fiber optic cables and pin diode sources and receivers for use in the Arctic. He used his propogation experience to develop complex terrain antenna coverage in rugged regions for military training ranges in the United States and Korea. Loral bought Ford Aerospace in 1990.

Jim expanded his designs to major military communication upgrade programs. He proposed the winning video and data network upgrades for Vandenburg and Cape Canaveral utilizing a combined set of solutions to meet the tremendous data demands and rapid turn around desired for these heavily used launch facilties. A secure range network including all downrange assets was designed using commercial and military satellites. Bandwidth selectable wideband signatures and digital data were combined in the highspeed network forever changing the paradigm of then current remote tracking station preprocessing. Lockheed-Martin acquired some divisions of Loral in 1995 of which his was one.

He worked with Western Development Labs designing extreme dynamic range narrowband receivers and continued consulting on fiber optic media and opto-electronic components. He joined Globalstar as Engineering Manager for Pre-Production Gateways.

Jim managed early Gateway development and deployment focusing on tracking antennas and their associated optimum performance prior to and during the satellite launch phase of the Globalstar program. After completing the deployment phase of Globalstar (52 satellites and 26 Gateways worldwide) Jim turned his attention to wideband user products which Globalstsr lacked. He designed the MCM8, a multi-channel modem, to increase bandwidth for users of the satellite system. The MCM3, a spinoff of this, was sold through SeaTel. He continued to wear many hats at Globalstar including Program Manager of New Gateway Installations, 2nd Generation TT&C Rollout, and 2nd Generation Antenna Development. He supported Business Development and Sales & Marketing as a technical consultant.

Jim joined Space Systems Loral in 2009 as Senior Payload Engineer designing wideband Ka-band and Ku-band communication payloads. He worked with HispaSat, AsiaSat, IntelSat, EutelSat and StarOne programs securing Ka and Ku band communication solutions for expansion of services to their customers. All programs successfully launched and are using these payloads. Jim left SSL in 2017 and continues consulting with OLSSI on an as need basis with related business opportunities.

He joined Alain Pinel Realtors to assist clients in property transactions and is now working with Compass supporting residential, multi-family, land and 1031 business exchanges.
